          Greenwood Magnetics

          The client

A long-established manufacturer whose IT had fallen behind

Greenwood Magnetics manufactures bespoke magnetic solutions, primarily for the food and pharmaceutical industries. The family-run business was founded in 1949 and has built its reputation around quality, innovation and specialist engineering.

As the company grew, its IT infrastructure did not keep pace. Previous providers mainly reacted when something broke. There was little forward planning, disruption was frequent and the business did not have a clear route for server upgrades, security improvements or long-term investment.

          Why Remedian

Proactive support with clear ownership at every level

Greenwood Magnetics stayed with Remedian because the support felt different from its earlier experience. The client highlighted the reliability, positivity and professionalism of the team, along with engineers who were willing to go beyond the immediate ticket when the business needed help.

The support structure runs from first to third line, so an issue can be escalated to the right level without being left with one overstretched engineer. At the time of the interview, the client reported minimal downtime and said most issues were resolved within a couple of hours.

Support also follows the business beyond the office. When the Managing Director works from Spain, the same team can resolve access and technology issues remotely. On one occasion, engineer Kacper also helped when the site's Tannoy system failed. It was outside the normal IT remit, but it demonstrated the ownership the client values.

          The work

Monthly planning, server management and offsite backup

The improvement was not one isolated project. Structured monthly meetings moved IT away from firefighting and created a regular place to review risks, priorities and upcoming changes. Server upgrades, offsite backup and ongoing server management were then handled as part of a plan rather than after a failure.

That gave the internal team confidence that core systems were being monitored and managed while they focused on manufacturing. It also made implementation easier because changes could be planned around the working day and reviewed with the people affected.

Licensing received the same scrutiny. By consolidating Greenwood Magnetics' Autodesk requirements and reviewing what the company actually used, Remedian helped the business reduce unnecessary cost without removing the tools its engineers needed.

          Security and improvement

          Protecting intellectual property without overspending

For a specialist manufacturer, intellectual property is one of the main assets IT has to protect. Security options were therefore reviewed against the company's real risks and working practices. Two-factor authentication was introduced across email accounts, while regular licence and service reviews helped prevent the company paying for controls it did not need.

The client also valued proactive communication. Regular updates and newsletters introduced relevant software, security measures and product improvements. The result was a more secure and user-friendly environment, along with a clearer understanding of why changes were being made.

Greenwood Magnetics reported improvements to software, network infrastructure and day-to-day productivity. More importantly, senior leaders had a support team they could contact and a regular process for deciding what should happen next.

          The outcome

Less downtime, lower licensing cost and a usable roadmap

The business moved from reactive support to planned management. Issues were dealt with quickly, remote working became easier to support, backups and servers had clear ownership, and technology decisions were tied to business needs rather than made in isolation.

The client described Remedian as an essential part of the team and said the personalised, responsive approach had strengthened both online security and awareness across the organisation.

“Exemplary service, proactive approach, attitude and respectful can-do approach is second to none. It makes a big difference.”
