          The client

A manufacturer serving the UK water industry

Badger Meter manufactures water and gas sensors. At the time of the interview, International Sales Manager Tristen Preger named United Utilities, Thames Water, Severn Trent, Yorkshire Water and Scottish Water among its customers, alongside other blue-chip organisations.

Those customers expect a responsive service, so Badger Meter needs the same from the suppliers behind its own operation. Email, systems and communications cannot become the reason its team is unable to respond.

          The challenge

Slow systems, poor wireless and no dependable response

Before Remedian, the company faced several connected problems: uncertainty over the hardware and software it needed, slow computers, a poor wireless network, server issues, firewall and security concerns, and slow support from other providers.

The largest problem was what happened when something went wrong. Support was not available at the speed the business required, leaving staff without the systems and information they needed to serve customers.

          The work

Improving the foundations without disrupting the working day

Implementation was carried out quickly and flexibly, including work outside office hours where that reduced disruption. Hardware, systems, wireless networking, server infrastructure, firewall controls and security were addressed as one operating environment rather than a series of unrelated faults.

Communication and training were part of the work. The client said this helped speed up systems and processes while reducing errors and miscommunication. It also meant the team understood the changes instead of simply being handed upgraded technology.

          The relationship

Honesty, reliability and support that goes further

Badger Meter continued with Remedian because of the speed of service, product knowledge and willingness to go further when help was needed. The client also highlighted honesty, reliability and the professionalism of engineers attending site.

The company judged proactive support by what happened during a real problem. Its summary was simple: issues were fixed as soon as possible. Systems became faster and more secure, and the team had a provider it trusted with access to the premises and its core technology.

          The outcome

Reliable IT that lets the business concentrate on growth

At the time of the interview, the relationship had lasted for more than a decade. Badger Meter reported annual growth of 15 to 20 per cent and said dependable IT played an important supporting role by keeping systems available, safe and responsive.

That growth should not be presented as an IT-only result. The practical outcome is that technology was no longer holding the business back. Staff had instant access to email and the systems needed to carry out their work, while IT problems were handled at the pace expected in the UK water industry.

“Having instant access to our emails and allowing us to perform our duties is imperative in the UK water industry.”
